Water, the natural cleanser

Dringking 8 glasses of water a day has been the age old recommendation, but ask yourself this question, "should a 110 pound model drink as much water as a 300 lb football player?" We know they each would need different amounts of water, so what is the answer?

Here it is: Take half your body weight and that is the amount of water in ounces you should drink every day. As you gain or loose weight the amount you need will vary. We tell our patients that results of their chiropractic care will improve with drinking the correct amount of water for them. The reasons why will be discussed in another blog in the future. For now start drinking the right amount of water for you.

The Chiropractic Scam....and the scam buster!

These are difficult times for patients who believe they might benefit from visiting a chiropractor to help with chronic or new pain. Scams and rip-offs are all over the news:

In suburban Philadelphia, a chiropractor attempted to defraud patients and insurance companies of more than $1.9 million. In Horesham, Ala., another chiropractor was caught trying to bilk customers and insurance companies out of more than $3 million. A Baton Rouge, La. chiropractic office manager was recently charged with 39 counts of theft and insurance fraud. In times like these, who’s got your back…literally?

Several months ago, I met up with a Chiropractic student who was trying to figure out where or, what he was going to do when he graduated. This guy seems to be a smart student, and I think will be a good Chiropractor. The problem that I see with this student, and with all students, is that most Chiropractors graduating today are way over educated in the medical model. Well, basically they are brainwashed in school that once they graduate, they can basically do what a medical doctor does. That's why most Chiropractors charge 2000 or 3000 for a "corrective care package". This has to be the biggest gimmick in Chiropractic today. The thing is, when you understand how Chiropractic really works, a plan of 25 or 45 adjustments and 3000 out of pocket expense is really silly. The funny thing is, that for every new patient these Chiropractors have, and it could be 20 or 30 a month, maybe only 2 or 3 could sign up for this program! Now, the problem I see is that 20 or 25 people have been turned away from not only this Chiropractors office, but ALL OF CHIROPRACTIC! This is sad to me.

The way it works is like this... Just like a diet or exercise, Chiropractic is not something you start and stop, once you get the results you want from a diet, you don't go back to eating big mac's, your now educated on the benefits from eating right, and now you have a responsibility to yourself and your body to take care of yourself. I've found that regular Chiropractic adjustments helps your body stay healthy. Most of my patients come in at least once a week to keep their spine aligned. Also, they don't have to make any appointments, they come in when they want to! Sound amazing? Well, its a different model than most Chiropractors run off of, as we have a fee system that allows you to come in for as low as $49.00 a month! So, for what one visit at most offices for one visit, you can come here all month!

So, back to my friend, and student. Apparently, since most Chiropractors are not aware of this model, and or are jealous of my office, they think what I do degrades the profession. Again, this is sad. One of these guys apparently got to my friend, and soon to be graduating student. This guys now scared to work at my office, due to the fear this Chiropractor has put in him. If our profession as a whole would adopt this model, I believe that this model could help thousands and thousands more people every year! If you would like more information, visit my website at www.lobaczchiropractic.com or if your in the Evansville area, schedule a first visit by calling 1866-365-2049.

I look forward to being your Chiropractor.

P.S. I'll update on the student, hopefully we can convert him from the medical model!

Adding to your Bucket!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to post this up, i found it very interesting...I found it on Lance Armstrong's site, called, www.livestrong.com. Not to be confusing, but really, diet and exercise are two separate things, just as Chiropractic is separate from each one of those. Sometimes I hear, "Well, i exercise, so i don't need to see a Chiropractor...WRONG!"

Health works like a bucket, for each good thing you do to help your body, such as getting adjusted regularly, eating a clean balanced diet, exercising, these things add to your bucket, and keep it full. That's good!

In the opposite, we have drinking beer, eating Twinkies, and taking medications (which only cover up symptoms and do nothing for the problem) and these things take away from your bucket...however, below are some things that "add" to your bucket...

Your metabolism is the rate at which your body burns calories. According to the Mayo Clinic, how fast yours works depends on genetics, gender--men tend to have faster metabolisms than women--and your age. There isn’t a lot you can do to change any of these factors, but there are some natural and easy ways to give your metabolism either a temporary or more long-term boost.
Step 1

Break the fast. You’ve probably heard it said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and, when it comes to boosting your metabolism, it’s true. By morning--after quite a few hours of not eating--your body is running low on fuel and is operating in starvation mode. This means it has slowed down the processes that burn calories, such as digestion, so it can save energy to keep you alive, says the Mayo Clinic. A healthy breakfast is the kick-start your body needs to get the metabolism back up to speed and reassure your system that fuel is in plentiful supply. For the same reason, try not to go for long periods of time without eating during the day. Eating small portions of food, or healthy snacks, regularly ensures your body has a constant source of energy and keeps your metabolism in a continuous working state, says WebMD.com.

Step 2

Put more protein on your plate. It takes around double the amount of energy for your body to digest protein as it does to process carbohydrates, says WebMD. So to keep your metabolism working and burning those calories, ensure your diet includes protein-packed foods, such as lean meat, fish, tofu, nuts and beans. However, be sure to maintain a balance of healthy carbs too.

Step 3

Lift weights. According to WebMD.com, every pound of muscle in your body uses about six calories a day, whereas one pound of fat burns two calories a day. So, by building your muscles through weight training, and reducing body fat, you can speed up your metabolism. MedicineNet.com advises speaking to your doctor before taking on a new weights program; to get maximum results, have a personal trainer create a weights workout specifically for you.

Step 4

Spice things up. If you’ve ever had a mouthful of chili, you’ll know how hard you have to work to cool your mouth down. According to WebMD, your metabolism is working just as hard on the inside to combat the chemical compounds in hot foods that raise your body temperature. And while WebMD says that the effects of a curry or fajita may only be temporary, regularly adding some spice to your meals may cause the effects to last longer.

Health Insurance in America

Interesting video/view on Health Insurance.

I think health insurance is not necessarily a bad thing...especially in an emergency situation, such as, you fall out of a tree and break your arm, or your child ate a weird plant out in the yard.... the idea here, and my opinion is that health insurance should really be called, "sick-insurance" because that's when you use it.. To keep your-self healthy, eating right, exercising, and getting adjusted is the best plan.

Chiropractic Member "gets it"

So I was busy adjusting people earlier, when a new member asks me a question about a particular condition... I walk him over to a chart I have on the wall and explain to him that Chiropractic is not about back pain, or neck pain, or any pain at all...really.

I further explain to him, it works like a fuse box. If you take the fuse out, whatever that fuse goes to, doesn't work anymore. Your spine controls your body just like a fuse box...so will it help with neck pain? maybe, back pain? maybe... headaches? maybe, how about bed wetting? maybe, or cancer even? maybe.

You see, my job is not to "get rid" of symptoms. I am not a medical doctor. Medicine has one distinct purpose...to get rid of symptoms. And Medical Doctors and medicine is really good at doing this...however, Chiropractic is something different than that.

Chiropractic, is about keeping the body healthy....keeping the fuse box full of good working fuses!

Anyway, back to this patient...so he says...so what your telling me is that when people have conditions, it could be that they have just neglected their bodies for so long that physical things start happening?

YES! (a lightbulb flashed over his head-like in the cartoons)

If you would like to get your spine checked, give our office a call at 866-365-2049 anytime day or night. If you like we we do, we have plans that range from 49 to 99 a month for unlimited care!

Rose

A good story:

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.

She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose.
I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?"

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze.

"Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked.

She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids..."

"No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.

"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.
We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went.

She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet.

I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, "I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.."

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream.. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do any thing I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."

She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose."

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they'll really enjoy it!

These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.

REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
